Tamil girl wins Children's Climate Prize

Pollution causing iron box is switching to non-polluting solar iron box. 14 years old girl receives Children's Climate prize for designing solar-powered ironing cart. Vinisha Umashanker has also been short listed for Prime Minister of India's Rashtriya Bal Shakti Puraskar 2021, the highest civilian award in India for students under age of 18. Vinishal will be receiving prize of 1,00,000 Swedish krona (₹8.64 Lakhs approximately), diploma and medal from Swedish-based Children's Climate Foundation on Wednesday at a digital event attended by Isabella Lövin, Swedish Minister for Environment and Climate and Deputy Prime Minister. This is fifth edition of Children's Climate prize, one of world's largest international climate awards for young innovator.

A mobile ironing cart with solar panels as its roof, which is connected to a 10A battery. A 12V 100A battery needs about 1200Watts of power to get fully charged. The solar panels will produce 250watts of power per hours. All it takes in five hours of bright sunshine to fully charge battery, which in turn will power steam iron box for 6hrs.

Prototype was developed by engineers at Ahmedabad National Innovation Foundation (NIF). Vinisha had won Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE Award 2019 for innovation. She is 9th standard SKP Vanitha International School student at Tiruvannamalai.
