How wondering while merging of galaxy!

It the most spectacular evens in the life time of a galaxy. The NASA/ESA Hubble Space Telescope has released an montage of six magnificent galaxy merges. At the time of merging they undergo dramatic changes in their appearance.

The Milky Way generally forms clusters of stars whose masses are 10 thousand times the weight of our Sun. This does not compare to the mass of star clusters forming colliding galaxies, which in turn can be millions of times the mass of our Sun.

In this montage, these dense stellar systems are also very luminous. Even after the collision, when the resulting galactic system starts to fade into a quieter phase, these massive star clusters will glow across their host galaxy, as long-lasting witnesses of past merging events.

Each of the merging systems shown here has been previously published by Hubble, as early as 2008 and as recently as October 2020. To celebrate its 18th anniversary in 2008, the Hubble Space Telescope published a collection of 59 images of fused galaxies that can be explored here.

These systems are excellent laboratories for monitoring the formation of stellar clusters in extreme physical conditions.
