Shanghai: The 85 year old Lagena Primary School of Shanghai was revitalised in which the school was shifted to about 62 metres in an eighteen day long 'walking style' procedure to pave way for a new community centre in the city.
The Robotic walker consisting of 200 devices lifted the 7600 tonne weighing school and then moved it step by step which they called as 'imitating the human feet'.
The irregular shape of the building posed a great challenge to the engineers which prevented them from opting conventional methods like slide rails or flat beds.
"The comprehensive renovation work was done to transform the school into a building integrating cultural education and intangible heritage preservation involving culture and innovation" said Li Jian Feng, General Manager of Pacific Xintian di Business centre.
