BMW MINI recently introduced the 'MINI Vision Urbanaut' electric car. They showcased a virtual prototype of a minivan, where the car is designed in such a way that it is not only meant for transportation but also for living.
The Vision Urbanaut will offer three MINI moments inside - Chill, Wanderlust and Vibe and each generating a different atmosphere. When a particular moment is activated, lighting, music, fragrances and other aspects will change according to the selected moment. The vehicle will also provide comfort through its automated driving functions and it is also made up of sustainable materials and an electric drive system to cater to environmental concerns. The car can be opened by using smartphones.
According to BMW, car will be designed inside out to make better use of the space. Augmented reality was used by them to create a virtual version of the Vision Urbanaut. A large sliding doorway was provided on the side of the car to enter. The two front seats can be rotated and the dashboard can be lowered to make a daybed. The windscreen can be opened upward to give a balcony experience.
The front end of the MINI Vision Urbanaut will have two parts - the headlights and the radiator grille. The headlights can only be seen when they are activated. The grille will serve the purpose of acting as the intelligence panel for automated driving. Both the front and rear lights have multi-colour graphics which indicates that the car is in its automated driving mode.
BMW did not provide the details of when the idea will be implemented.
