Chennai: Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) have decided to start construction of elevated corridor between Poonamallee to Power House (Kodambakkam), which stretches up to 12km which is part of one of three corridors in Phase 2 project which stretches up to 118.9km. These 12km are passing through densely populated areas of Porur, Alappakam, Valasaravakkam and Saligramam.
Before, CMPL had planned to start services between Madhavaram and Sholinganallur and Madhavaram and CMBT, covering nearly 52km.
This is going to be fully elevated and stations will come up to Power House, Saligramam, Avichi School, Alwarthirunagar, Valasaravakkam, Karambakkam, Alapakkam Junction, Porur Junction, Chennai Bypass Crossing, Ramachandra Hospital, Iyyapanthangal Bus Depot, Kattupakkam, Kumananchavadi, Karayanchavadi, Mullai Thottam, Poonamallee Bus Terminus and Poonamallee Bypass.
Larsen and Toubro signed contract for this projects first major contract. Construction of station between Power House ad Porur will be done for ₹1,035 Crores.
It is for more easier to finish the construction of an elevated stretch and hence it may be put into operation first.- Officials
