It was on 2nd February that Jeff Bezos announced his step down as Amazon CEO and transition to the executive chair of the company board. He further clarified that his decision is not as part of his plan to retire.

As the Executive Chairman, he plans to stay engaged in Amazon initiatives and also be part of his other passions like the Day 1 Fund, The Bezos earth fund, Blue Origin, the Washington post to name a few.

Being the CEO of Amazon is a deep responsibility and it's consuming. When you have a  responsibility like that, it's hard to put attention on anything else.

- He wrote a letter to his employees about his transition

Before Amazon was launched, people were even unaware of what internet was. Jeff Bezos started Amazon as an online bookseller in 1994 with the thought that it is likely to fail. But today, with a market value of about $1.7 trillion, Amazon is an e-commerce behemoth.

His decision to quit his job at a hedge fund and start Amazon out of garage made his then employer and family members disappointed about his future but, "I pictured myself 80 years old, thinking back on my life in a quiet moment of reflection. I wanted not to have any regrets. I knew for a fact, I have this idea, and if I don't try, I'm going to regret having never tried", he said in a fireside chat in India, 2020.
