In-car technologies are creating a large breakthrough in past few years. To promote these technologies more popular, Google and Ford collaborates to make connected cars more efficient and superior. Both the companies announced there partnership, where Google handles the technical sides and it controls the Ford cars. Ford had already introduced an integrated media hub called My Ford Touch. This platform was introduced in 2011 in Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX (where its called My Lincoln Touch) and on the Ford Focus in 2012. My Ford Touch alters the entertainment system, instrument cluster, voice commands and steering-wheel switches depending up on which software application that driver have chosen. It is expected that Ford and its luxury series Lincoln's vehicles at all prices powered by Android and with in build services of Google apps hits the market by early 2023.
Foremost intension of this partnership is to reduce distraction during drive. Android OS and Google apps and services provide so many facilities. Some of the features are listed below:
- Google Assistant helps the driver to focus their eyes on the road and hands on wheel, things can be accomplished with their voice.
- Google Maps as vehicle's primary navigation system, in which drivers can reach their destined places faster with information on real-time-traffic, automatic re-routing, lane guidance and more.
- With Google Play, drivers can access apps for listening their favourite music, audiobooks, podcasts and more. These apps are optimised and integrated for vehicle use.
- Android enables Ford and third party developers to built apps for better experience.
