Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has defended WhatsApp's much-bashed privacy-policy update justifying that it is aimed at easing "Optional experiences for businesses in the app".

Zuckerberg on January 28 said that they are building new features to make it even easier to transact businesses in the app. They are building tools to let businesses store and manage WhatsApp chats using secure hosting infrastructure.

According to him, WhatsApp is "in the process" to update it's privacy policy. He also clarified that the update will not change the privacy of the user's messages with friends and families, and are end-to-end encrypted unless the person that you message chooses to share it.

It was on January, WhatsApp announced their updated policy and terms in the in-app notification and was asked to accept before January 8, failing to which the users would lose their accounts. WhatsApp now had extended the deadline to May 15. These changes sought users approval, which the company deemed necessary to introduce new ways to messages via WhatsApp Business.

Business messages will only be hosted on our infrastructure, if the business chooses to do so. We are moving the date of the update back to give everyone time to understand what the update means.

-Zuckerberg added

WhatsApp's new policy and terms of service have drawn flak for different rules for Indian users vis-á-vis European users.
