What is MLH Fellowship?

MLH Fellowship is a 12 week internship program for all tech enthusiast where they can work from home. The students who are selected are placed into small groups called pods of about 8-10 members where they will collaborate and work on project assigned to them. They have to work together as a team and also a professional software engineer will be assigned to them to mentor.

Major league Hacking (MLH) was a community for all technical aspirants formed in 2013. Before the pandemic, they allows the student developers to organize events like fests, workshops, hackathons, competitions etc.. But due to the pandemic, many students lost their internship and jobs and so in order to give students a hands on experience on a project, MLH launched the MLH Fellowship.

This program also offers need-based stipend up to $5000 depending on your time you commit for this, the country you reside in, income and living conditions. Only some will be eligible for this.

Programs offered

MLH offers three different programs:
  • Explorer – Helps you to build portfolio of your personal projects and try new technologies by collaborating in small groups on a series of short hackathon-like sprints.
  • Open Source – helps to become open source contributor by contributing to major projects on GitHub which are used by many companies around the world.
  • Externship – provided a hands-on experience students by collaborating on projects with various MLH’s partner organizations.
Eligibility criteria
  • In order to participate in this program, student must be above 18 years or over the age of 13 with a parent's permission.
  • Must be a citizen or permanent resident of the United States, Canada or Mexico.
  • Must commit 30 hours per week in case of full time program and 10-20 hours per week in case of part time program.
  • Must be proficient in at least one programming language.
  • Mode of communication – English, both written and spoken.
  • Must have a good internal connection.
  • Will have to be online during business hours
  • Must be a current student with graduation expected after August 2022.
Application process

Step 1: Fill your application form – About yourself, Experience and Reason to be part of this fellowship.
Step 2: Once your application gets selected, next there will be a general and technical interview.
Step 3: Finalize your enrolment, Sign the agreement and prepare for the orientation.
